A Love of Cartoons

“If it wasn’t for Asterix, I’d have stayed at home!”

I worked all my life in the world of publishing. Not the fancy, glamorous world where you have book launches, cheese and wine receptions and fawning flunkies. No, mine was the mean, grisly arena of selling advertising space in publications that hardly anyone wants to read.

A tough career, and no error. But all the time, in the background, I was drawing cartoons. Occasionally for my advertising clients but mostly for my own pleasure.

Now that unforgiving landscape has receded into the past and I’m concentrating all my working time on creating cartoons, hoping to get the same pleasure from it as I did when I was six!

My main project is a sequential strip called ‘Merrie England’. It’s enormous fun and hugely satisfying.

I’ve created a little world of characters and scenarios set in England in the 14th Century.

Merrie England, where the witch, Esme Gat-Tooth and Abbot Pardieu are at daggers drawn, he upholding the values of the church and she, just wanting to be a witch.
